Tidewrack

Maps for coastlines that won’t hold still.

Tidewrack Charts is a two-person studio in Harrowmouth. We walk a shoreline, ink what we find by hand, and print each edition on cotton paper, one place at a time.

What we chart

Places where the coastline is a moving target, drawn as precisely as a moving target allows.

Tidal islands
Causeways, sandbars and islands whose shape depends on the hour. Each chart shows the high-water and low-water outlines on the same sheet.
River mouths
Channels wander. We lay surveys from different years over one another so you can see where the water went and where it may go next.
Ice and mud
Glacier edges, saltmarsh and mudflat. Slow places that change faster than the old maps admit.

Plate of the season

Harrow Sands loses a strip of its western shore every winter. The new plate sets the 2015 coastline beneath the 2026 survey, with the old lane across the sands marked in magenta where the sea has taken it.
